What hardware?

My Thinkpad T61p was freezing randomly every couple of days, with the
Caps LED blinking. I searched forums and disabled the wifi driver by
making a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-wireless with "blacklist
iwl4965". The laptop no longer freezes.

(The side effect is that I cannot use wifi. I did not have a use for
it anyway, but perhaps I will want it some day. I tried ndiswrappers
but it did not work: newer Windows drivers had unresolved symbols, and
an older driver which would actually load caused an oops and then
system hanged at start every time until I removed the ndiswrappers
driver.)
