I said that the issues with the Firefox 3 AwesomeBar were addressed. I
did not say that it is possible to have Firefox 2 functionality with
Firefox 3 at the moment.
I said that the issues were addressed because most of the issues that
I had been familiar with were related to the fact that people across
the room could see the user's browsing history and bookmarks. That
issue was addressed. I seriously thought that the _behaviour_ of the
AwesomeBar was perceived as good, but that it's presentation was an
issue. That issue had been addressed. I was unaware that there are
people who prefer the Firefox 2 behaviour.
I would assume that proper use of bookmarks (and now, tagging) would
also address the issue of those who want to enter a specific phrase
(or the beginning of a phase) into the addressbar and be taken to a
particular website. You may want to look into bookmark keywords, which
let one enter, for example, "g" into the address bar and be directed
to google.com. You can assign keywords to any bookmark.
Steve, check if there is an issue on Bugzilla regarding the behaviour
that you want. If not, then file one. In either case, post the bug
number here so that myself and others can comment on it, vote on it,
and support you in getting that behaviour back. It sounds reasonable
enough.
