I am trying to use Ubuntu for Chinese (Simplified). There are some
places it does not work properly for me. For example Open Office appears
to have some characters missing and in others the wrong character
appears to be encoded - I guess it is the font table thats wrong rather
than OO, but I have not pinned it down yet. Also, I cannot get cutting
and pasting of Chinese characters in and out of aMSN to work at all.
This seems to be an aMSN issue because C & P works between other apps.

At present, being a real newbie with Linux/Ubuntu and never really
having had an exposure to Unix before either, I am still learning my way
around bit by bit, but once I feel I can reliably report real bugs,
rather than my own inadequacies, I will try to get down to
documenting/reporting them.

I don't know if there are likely to be issues with printng chinese
because I have not yet got printing from Ubuntu to work at all - but
that's a different thread.

In the meantime, if anyone has experience in setting up SCIM (Smart
COmmon Input Method), I would appreciate hearing their experiences
because I am pretty sure I am not doing it right, and the documentation
seems scant, so I guess I have not looked in the right places for that
either.

Chris.
