Query on UBUNTU

>From the information that you have posted, it is quite difficult to
make out, what is wrong. Does the "some DOS prompt" you are referring
to looks like the attached image ? If not, atleast mention a few lines
or words that you can see in the prompt, it would help in determining
where you are stuck. Also kindly mention how you did the installtion -
that is whether you ran the installation disk from inside windows or
you did a boot from CD ?
