OK, so you are using kppp. Just to clarify: Did you select the correct 
device /dev/ttyACM0 (I think that's what it should be) for the modem 
configuration? The default is /dev/modem, but I don't expect there is a 
link setup automatically. And maybe you could check that there is a 
device /dev/ttyACM0 at all. You can use dolphin and navigate to the /dev 
directory. Have a look for ttyACM0 there.

Sorry, I think I can't help you much further because I don't have dialup. 
And that's also the reason why I don't know your particular error 
message. Hopefully there are others who know kppp better.
