What is the best option to open .docx, pptx files in Ubuntu LTS 8.04 ?

If I get a choice I ask for txt. If it *really* has to look fancy,
I'll take html. 

My solution to the worldwide economic crisis: plain text.

Think of the cost savings and productivity gains if everyone used a
text editor.
