Probably (assuming you can hook up a usb stick to a Toshiba Satellite
A10) doing the steps recommended on this page[1]. Disclaimer, I've
never done this before :) Seems like unetbootin might do the trick, as
it does not require you have written the ubuntu install ISO image to a
cd (since your cd is not working).

You therefore could do this all on the laptop - provided you have
sufficient disk space to store the ISO and you can read/write Usb
sticks from the laptop (and you can boot the usb stick from the
laptop) as that is most important.
