I suppose it's theoretically possible to copy Ubuntu to it's own partition from windows but you still have to create a partition for it in order to do so and I wouldn't know how to copy from one partition to another but the list seems to say it can be done with something like gparted. Too complicated for me as I've never tried it. If space is not an issue, you could make several partitions of about 10-50 GB and have several ubuntu versions installed. Grub will most likely list the last version installed or the latest kernel one first in menu.lst. Hope this makes sense and help you decide the best way. Personally, I have a 500 GB HDD and have created several 50 GB partitions containing Vista, Vista Recovery, 8.04.1 and 7.1 and a few empty partitions for Intrepid Ibex and whatever comes next. Hello Leonard,

But won't I lose the current settings if I uninstall Ubuntu?

Gparted I have used, but primarily for setting-up a box from scratch.
I've never tried shuffling partitions around. But in this case, Ubuntu
is within the XP partition, so shuffling might not be an option. It
shows in XP as it's own folder. So, I guess what I'm looking for is to
copy that folder, install it in it's own partition, and then delete that
folder from XP. (and then defrag ;-) )

Still mulling this over,

Mischa
