Well good news and bad.
I took time this morning to run Update Manager and it updated
about 150 files including linux 26.24-21-generic.
kppp now connects and a ping to 72.14.207.99 starts out at 350 ms or so.
After 10 minutes this dropped off to between 16000 ms to 24000 ms. Not
so good
but at least it seems to work.
I could find nothing that mentioned dialup improvements or modem
improvements
in the new kernel but this is a definite step forward.
Another thing is - I do not usually try this kind of thing at 0500.
This stuff is usually
done MUCH later - say 1500. I'll test this out today and let you know.
Sorry to bother you; you must have intimidated the system by mere
mention of your name.
Thanks again for your time.
