HOw does oneconnect to a wireless network?

Toshiba P205-S7454 with an AMD processor and AR5007EG wireless network adapter.
Using  Ubuntu 8.10 LIVE

I went to the Help files and using the sudo command the only network it saw was the ethernet lan which was disconnected.  How do I get the red X off of the double terminal icon.  There is no "wireless" icon.

The help file refered to "turning on the wireless" but I have no idea where that gets done.  When I boot up in windows the wireless works fine.  Under Ubuntu 8.1 I can't get on the internet.
