There is NO system that you just load and with no driver setup and
work. Forget that and join the REAL world. Your friend wants to use Gimp
to do video things and it works best on Linux where it was born.
The nVidia problems are really not a problem. There IS a problem
with a particular nVidia hardware called Gforce 6100. Gimp 2.6 is on the
Ubuntu Intrepid version and that should be what your friend wants to use.
