Ever since upgrading to Intrepid I have had problems with the mic
input. My sound worked OK so I didn't have big problems, but the mic
volume was too low to be usable for Skype etc. Nigel's suggestions
above helped a lot. I had already opened up alsamixer and other
preference panels, but couldn't find any way to adjust the mic (to get
it back to where it was pre-Intrepid). Even with the mic volume full
up it was very low. What I found was that the "Mic Boost" was muted.
Unmuting that and my mic input (and Skype) are back to normal. Big
thanks to Nigel and hope this helps others with my problem.
