A little more info would help the list to offer a solution. Your video card make, model and chip set ID is certainly needed to suggest a driver for it. Or, you could google yourself for "ubuntu+your video card chipset or at least brand and model no.+ intrepid+driver" should get you some hits or use your own keywords.
You could always see if intrepid can fix the problem itself by booting up in recovery mode and when the menu appears select the 4th item, xfix, let it run until the menu reappears and select normal boot. Many times this fixes any resolution issues in ubuntu.
I presume you are running 32 bit desktop intrepid but who knows as you didn't say
