You might try turning off IPV6 in Ubuntu to see if that helps. I've not
had issues with IPV6 turned on, but others have reported DNS issues with
it turned on if their router does not support IPV6.

You might want to ensure that you have the latest firmware in the router.

Also check your PPPoe settings. Is PPPoE set in the modem? If so, then
turn it off in the router & set DHCP on the WAN side of the router.

  Personally, I just set my DSL modem to bridge mode and then set my
Cisco/Linksys BEF-VP41 do all of the work. The wireless (Netgear WGR614
is then conneted into the VP41.
