I didn't have any problems getting the new nvidia drivers to work here
either. But I don't exactly have a 6100, I have currently a 6200 PCI
card. I've done the upgrade on a loaner 64 bit machine, and not too
many problems, although at first there were some, especially when the
display blanked out and did not come back somewhere during the
distribution upgrade. Wow, that was fun, and I kept it going as long
as I still could hear disk head movement, but still had to do a dpkg
-reconfigure -a and some other stuff to get 8.10 back up as normal.
But now it works fine, if not better than 8.04 did. I don't have to
ctrl-alt-F1 any more to get the display back to normal and I don't
have to sudo insmod the nvidia module on boot like I had to do on
Hardy.

If I can get my other box fixed (it has a faster CPU) I'll go back to
using it, which had a 6100 on the motherboard. Right now, it won't
even turn on, probably dead mobo and/or CPU. I will have to have
someone look at it soon.
