virtualbox new

I am new to Ubuntu and Linux and need a little help.

I used synaptic to get virtualbox and there seemed to be many options.
I am at the point where I have made a blank virtual drive and now I want 
to start it and in stall xp in it. I press start and then it tells me 
that the right Ctrl button gets me out  -- OK

then I get the following error message.

either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. 
Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. 
virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..

I then tried to reinstall "virtualbox-ose-modules-generic.." to see if 
this would help but no it is still the same error message.

any Ideas about what I should do next would be greatly appreciated.
