Is USB over ethernet possible

First, the software is "freeware", so no one is asking you to give money
to anyone. Secondly, you said that such a thing is impossible. I can't
say if this software works or not, but if it does, it is what the OP was
asking for.

It appears that way to me. Again, this is what the OP was looking for.
Perhaps he can install it and report back as to how well it works, now
that the research has been done for him.

Hmm, you said that _any_ such thing was impossible. Perhaps lsusb will
work just fine, perhaps not. It might be best not to be so absolute.
