Strange... I've been using Gutsy since just after it was released...
upgraded from Fiesty. My hard-drive is hda, although fstab uses UUIDs...

wulfy at localhost:~$ ls /proc/ide/ide0/hda
cache capacity driver geometry identify media model settings
smart_thresholds  smart_values

wulfy at localhost:~$ uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 07:42:25 UTC 2008
i686 GNU/Linux

wulfy at localhost:~$ cat /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass>
proc            /proc           proc    defaults        0       0
# /dev/hda2
UUID=8e906282-9a2d-4f2e-850c-06a9cc7a2b1f /               ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0       1
# /dev/hda3

defaults        0       2
# /dev/hda1
UUID=9ad669a7-bc04-49f5-8aff-17216d8d9583 none            swap
sw              0       0
/dev/hdc        /media/cdrom0   udf,iso9660 user,noauto     0       0
/dev/           /media/floppy0  auto    rw,user,noauto  0       0

I have no idea why the floppy entry is just /dev/ and not /dev/floppy or
whatever...
