Ubuntu 7.10 Vs Windows Ham Software

I am using "wine" interface for some ham radio software...some will work
and other will not.  I particularly need windows software for my Ten Tec
Pegasus transceiver to function..thus far, I cannot get the software to
talk to the transceiver unit. 

Has any ham followers of this reflector succeed in making this work?
Would VMware for desktop be a better choice?
