Boot Failure, need some help

If you use the Ubuntu live CD (I'm not familiar with Knoppix), what is the 
output of "sudo fdisk -l"? From that you can determine which is the 
partition with the Ubuntu installation. It is surely NOT /dev/hda but 
more likely /dev/hda1. Probably these pages will help to restore the boot
