Thanks. Googled around a bit and found a nice script here
http://www.jejik.com/articles/2007/07/automatically_mounting_and_unmounting_samba_windows_shares_with_cifs/
that works.

What's strange is that I have another install of Gutsy running on the
same box with exactly the same network mounts and have never had this
problem.
