text editor for web development

One cannot believe that Emacs wasn't at the top of the list. A main
heartache about Ubuntu---Emacs is not installed by default. A
wonderful tutorial brings one up to speed on basic keystrokes in a few
minutes.

For simple pages, Emacs with html mode makes straight HTML easy
enough, and can preview in one's preferred browser.
