Hey,
The .run file is an auto installer that will compile drivers if need
be. To use it you will need to bring up a console
(applications->accessories->terminal). Assuming that you downloaded
the file to your home dir the commands would look similar to this:
owen:~$ chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.07-pkg1.run
owen:~$ sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.07-pkg1.run
(your version number will probably be different)
Follow the prompts to install the driver.
An alternative to this if you are not in need of the absolute latest
driver is to use the ubuntu-restricted drivers. Go to
System->Administration->Restricted Drivers Manager
You should then only need to tick the box for nvidia and ubuntu will
take care of the rest.
cheers,
Owen.
