Lets face Ubuntu 8.04

Every time I have tried to download skype and install in ubuntu I get a 
message that approximately says that Skype cannot be installed in AMD 64 
bit.  with an apology.  This may not be the exact message but it's close 
. I gues it may be a month since I have tried ??
