ipod raid bug fix

hello everyone,

so i've been going round and round with my ipod. i can mount it fine but 
anytime i try to use any of the apps (banshee, amarok, gtkpod) they lock 
up. i know this is a known bug but i would have thought it fixed in 7.10 
(seeing as how the bug was discovered in 2006.) the bug is the ipod raid 
bug in volume_id. i have seen a patch:

but: 1) not sure if this is necessary for 7.10 and 2) i'm not sure how 
to patch it.

has anyone successfully managed to get this issue fixed?
