Grub not right on new install.

Not if, as Jim said, Windows is on another hard drive.  I've never known the
installer to pick that up.

It looks right, but _don't_ put it where Elmo suggests - put if after:

### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST

That will ensure that "update-grub" doesn't remove it in future.

And don't do that either.  Edit as root (ie, using one of the *sudo
commands).  menu.lst should remain owned by root.
