i have a usb modem as well, however mine is different.

Note 1: in linux, all "basic" device drivers are stored in a directory
titled /dev.

Note 2: sometimes linux sees usb modems as /dev/ttyACM0 (it did on my system
since i had an ACM modem).

so first im gonna walk you through how to dial out.

1) Click System, then go down to Administration
2) Then click Network
3) Next to the close button on the bottom, there should be a little button
titled "Unlock". Click that button and then enter your password
4) double-click on Point-to-Point connection
5) Make sure Enable This Connection is Checked
6) then hit the modem tab
7) then type /dev/ttyACM0
8) Click OK
9) make sure the box next to the "Point-to-point connection" is checked
10) you should hear it dialing out

if you dont hear it dialing out, you may have to search your kernel log (or
post your kernel log here) to find out how linux is seeing your modem.
