It may be apolitical of me to say it but... if the shoe fits sometimes
its best to save the frustration of all parties involved by speaking
plainly and directing them to something a tad closer to their abilities.
When it comes to community support that is a viable option and one I do
think should be expressed when it is the best answer. This is opposed
to a commercial setting where no matter how much the end user doesn't
get it the support personnel are beholden to help them to the bitter
end.

And yes, I've been in both situations and yes, I have directed people I
felt were in over their head to something that was more in tune with
their capabilities. Of course in my case it is often nudging people
from debian-user here to (K)Ubuntu because they were looking for
automation in setup that Debian does not nor probably will ever provide.
Heck, I am a die-hard Debian fan who maintains two KUbuntu boxes
because of the configuration automation KUbuntu has over Debian.

I have never said that anyone is too stupid for Debian but they could
probably take it as such and relay that fact to someone else by stating
I have, "in effect" said it. Like I said, probably apolitical but there
it is. Generally anything that is community support is going to require
a tad more from the end user than "here's the answer, here's the walk
through, here let me configure it for you." That's just the nature of
the beast.
