File descriptor problem

When trying to run a script in konsole I get the message:-

"Couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console"

and then a series of 'command not found' errors relating to each
command in the script.

Anyone know what the problem is, and how to correct it?  Presumably a
reboot would sort it out, but ideally I'd like to find a permanent
solution.
