Is this a USB printer you're trying to run off an RS232 port, or an
RS232 printer you're attempting to run off a USB port? It appears
that the CUPS driver for this printer doesn't support serial
connections, only parallel, network and usb (at least, according to
their site). If it's a USB printer you're attempting to run off a
serial port, I'm curious as to why. If your machine is out of USB
ports, your easiest option might be to just purchase a PCI USB card
and using printer off of that. If it is the other way around, it
could either be the driver or the adapter.
As a side-note, I know that some USB to RS232 adapters don't work well
under Linux. Unfortunately, it seems to be a little bit of a crap-
shoot. I know that Belkin (as overpriced as they are) does make one
(or several?) that works well under Linux. I don't remember the model
off-hand, though. Just something to check. If you have another brand
of adapter (or a different model), I would suggest trying that first,
it might solve your problem.
