failed installation with 256 MB RAM

actually, the page www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/804 says:

    Low-memory systems may be able to use the desktop CD to install by
    selecting "Install Ubuntu" from the boot menu to run just the
    installer, rather than the whole desktop started by selecting "Try
    Ubuntu without any change to your computer".

doesn't this mean that you CAN indeed use the Live CD to install on a
256 MB computer, as long as you start installation straight from the
boot screen, ie without loading X, Gnome and what not?

Or is it absolutely necessary, to install Ubuntu 8.04, to get another
CD?
