keyboard malfunction?

In all honesty it sounds like you have num lock turned on on a laptop
keyboard (but some of the keys you are pressing give off the wrong
number). Do you have a small keyboard that dosen't have a number
keypad? If so, and if you have turned off your number lock it sounds
like it might be that. Why you can login fine is the same on my laptop,
ubuntu dosen't turn on my num lock untill after I have logged in. I
hope this helps. have you also tried another keyboard?
