As Oliver mentioned, openssh-server is all you really need, and
instructions for that are available at
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/openssh-server.html
If you'd like to get into some of the more complex configurations
available with FTP server software, check out
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/ftp-server.html to get
started and then read the (fairly verbose) comments in the
configuration file.
