About that, according to what I can find, gparted and Gnome Partition
Editor are the same program. If the OP is unable to get it to work, the
name is not going to matter. Any idea how he can get it to work?

May be try uninstalling and reinstalling gparted. Since that is the name
of the program to install Gnome Partition Editor.

in a terminal window:
sudo apt-get remove --purge gparted
sudo apt-get install gparted

good luck,
