Reducing the size of a photo

Apologies for coming into this thread late, but I always use digikam for
my batch photo size reduction. It has a nice tool included that does the
right thing depending on whether the image is landscape or portrait. It
works great for me, and I use it for all of my photos to prepare them
for online upload. Of course, YMMV.
