either you don't have enough ram (256mb or so) or your CD is bad. take your
pick.
i installed ubuntu 7.10 on that very same laptop today. it worked just fine.
granted, I had to start in "safe graphics mode" but it worked. and after it
was installed, it worked fine with the right video driver.
