using other distro's repos?

That's what I'm looking for: making the package part of the distro, so 
it can be maintained with apt.
PCLOS has the package in question in their repos, and I am hoping that 
Ubuntu will do the same.  I made a request, but, if I must do the 
packaging myself, I will.
I haven't had time to get around to fully understanding that yet, but, 
I'm working on it...
