xubuntu, xfce4-verve-plugin: command completion broken?

Folks;

using the xubuntu desktop, I just recently discovered about the
xfce4-verve-plugin which is supposed to add a feature-laden command
line to the xfce4 panel. Sounds good, but it's not working on my
machine. I can't unfortunately provide any more concise error messages
than just saying "TAB" key (which is supposed to do command line
completion in there as well) doesn't do anything. Any idea how to
change this, anyone?
