Environment variables (it was Re: Gridsphere deployment)

Nop. I have to re-define them at every login. Mmmmmmm

I've found this[0]:

Is this also valid for (Debian-based) Ubuntu?


Where should I define the variables so they propagate and persist to all 
existing and future users?
(This is something I've wondering for ages...)

I know there's the ~./bash_profile file or similar, but that works only for 
one user...
