problem with dialup modem

Hello everyone,

I am very much new to ubuntu and linux. I have installed the OS just the
last last week and have been struggling to fix mu dial up USB modem provided
by Tata Indicom, a service provider in India.
Running the wvdial.conf does not help. When directly doing a "wvdial" on the
terminal, it says, no such directory found in /dev/modem. Is it not
recognizing my USB modem at all?
