Hello, good afternoon from The Netherlands.

My configuration at the desktop PC is also dual-boot: in my case Kubuntu
and XP at an HP Pavilion from early 2005, with in total 240 GB Hard disk
space, 1,25 GB internal memory, 2GHZ processor speed (intel celeron).
Also in my case, the sound does come from the XP partition, but not from
the Linux one: in spite of my efforts to work through this checklist:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449
This is the so-called 'Comprehensive sound problems solutions guide',
which applies for Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Kubuntu equally. \
I also checked the settings of ALSAMIXER and K-MIX, so that all channels
would be UNmuted.
However it may be, also after working through all, the sound
configuration at the Linux partition is still totally mute.

This is what I know about the sound card and sound driver:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6
Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 2a28
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
        Memory at ffa3c000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
Sound driver: snd-intel8x0. (This info I got from the "sound driver
available?" section at the Alsa website.)

Recently, I installed also Linux (Kubuntu 7.10) at the laptop. There,
the sound seems to work perfectly well without any extra reconfiguration
effort ...

However it may be, I would appreciate feedback helping me to fix the
problem....

Thanks, respectfully yours,

Bas.
