Freeze SO Linux, it's possible?

As a side note, no, I've never found similar-type software for Linux to 
"Freeze" it despite looking around. The closest I've come is imaging 
software or using Linux in a virtual machine (like VirtualBox) and using 
snapshots to revert to a previous state.
