Ok, you can disagree... but I am telling you that this is a Mozilla
issue on linux - regardless of which distro you use. The fact of the
matter is that Fx (linux) provides you with a "Choose Helper
Application" dialog, it just doesn't provide suggested applications as
it does in Windows. See:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346870
["Choose Helper Application", get list from Gnome Menu]
http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php?title=File_types_and_download_actions
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259594
[ "open with..." dialog box requires full pathname to choose alternative
application ]
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370380
[ Cannot easily select alternative helper applications in "Open With"
dialog ]
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397700
[Implement application selector (nsIMIMEInfo.possibleLocalHandlers) for
Linux]
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=373397
[nsGNOMERegistry could use the mozgnome component]

And I suppose that your bug report might be classified as a duplicate of:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/111818
[firefox choose helper application dialog is useless]

I suppose if Ubuntu have the resources they could provide a patch to
Mozilla Corporation (anyone can contribued). But given that Mozilla
Corp. have _paid_ Firefox developers, and are aware of the issue(s), I
reckon that it would be nice if the fix came from Mozilla Corporation
directly.
