I've used Ubuntu almost exclusively now for about a year on my
desktop. Its far more stable than Windows, I don't have to worry
about viruses and malware, and everything just works. If Wine was
able to run all of my games I'd replace Vista on my laptop with
Ubuntu, but until then I'm going to have to suffer with that crappy
OS.

On my Ubuntu desktop there isn't anything I can't do in Ubuntu that I
could do in XP. In fact, many tasks in Ubuntu are easier than they
were under XP. Installing new software is one task, which is very
easy. Overall, I believe Ubuntu to be ready for the desktop as an
alternative to Windows. So what if it can't run some Windows
programs, neither can Mac OS X and you don't see people saying its not
ready for the desktop. Linux has matured and its only going to get
better.
