G'day there Rashkae,
Sorry about taking a while to get back. The boss insisted that I
actually show up for work and I didn't have much time to play with the
pooter.

You might well be correct. In the last few days I've partitioned off
a 10 gig chunk of the hard drive and installed Mandriva, which couldn't
load DVDs. I then downloaded Puppy Linux and installed to my pendrive.
It works fine, but can't load DVD's either. Actually, I should correct
that. It finds the drive OK if there's an install DVD, but not if
there's a movie on it. CD's don't seem to be an issue although I think
there's something wrong with the sound. That's a different issue though.
I'm now running Mint Linux (Ubuntu derivative) and it's got the same
issues.
I'll have to chase up the warranty for this thing and see if I can
get a new drive fitted.
Thanks for helping
See ya
