Can't pin down DVD no mount problem

I'm starting to think your drive just went kafka between then and now
and can no longer reliably read a portion of dvd's.  It's maddening that
something like that would happen right in the middle of a major software
change, which makes it hard to be 100% certain, but it's really a very
common problem with optical drives.. they just don't last worth a damn.
