Can't pin down DVD no mount problem

No, this one worked fine wth the previous Vista install, and also on
Hardy when dual booting. It's only now that I've gone Linux-only that
the drive has stopped working. I know having only Linux isn't the
problem, but it started when I completely reinstalled.
Since then I've installed & had a look at KDE4, and then removed it.
Could that have removed something it shouldn't? It was actually after
this that I discovered the problem, although it may have existed without
me knowing it.
Thanks for sticking with this, as I'm only learning this stuff as I go
along.
