Sure. If it's not installed it will install it. If it's installed it
will reinstall it & on occasion catch issues in the process if it's been
uninstalled, reinstalled, etc., previously.
I'm upgrading my last primary machine now & before I started I made sure
that: 1) the ubuntu-desktop was reinstalled, and 2) everything was
updated, upgraded beforehand. I waited on this machine before the -14
kernel issue was fixed... Now, that doesn't mean that I won't come back
in a few hours ranting and raving about having to fix bits that were
messed up during the upgrade :-) But that last is expected as that
machine has gone from dapper to feisty to gutsy and has so much stuff
loaded on it that is non-Ubuntu that I'd be very surprised if it goes
smoothly.
