It's just a file. The only reason they suggest you edit it with
visudoers is so that you get a built-in syntax check whenever you
alter it. Make a known good backup and leave it in the same folder.
If you make a mistake you reboot in single user mode (or use a Live
CD or whatever) and copy the known good file back.
