Note that Wubi does not need a physical CD, it can work directly with
the ISO. Hence the workaround is straightforward: put ISO and wubi.exe
in the same folder and run wubi from there.

Re: Could not Access the CD, make sure other applications are not using it
This is taken from the wubi guide
Quote:
Error "Could not access the CD"
This sometimes happens when a DVD media/drive is used and/or if the CD
is corrupted and/or if the support is of poor quality and/or the CD/DVD
is not finalized. Sometimes burning again on different CD media or using
a different CD device solves the issue. A quick workaround is to use
Wubi directly with the ISO. Just place the final desktop ISO and
wubi.exe in the same folder and run Wubi. Do not leave the CD in the tray.
</quote>
That might do the trick. Create a new directory/folder, copy the .iso
file (ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) and the wubi.exe file from the CD
into that new directory/folder. Then remove the CD and double click on
the wubi.exe.
Note: you can also download wubi.exe from here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04.1/wubi.exe
Good luck!
